A sense of displacement informs many of diasporic Chinese writings.Displacement entails a memory of home, and behind the memory is the frustration experienced by the diasporic writers in the host culture and their innate desire for transcendence. Through an analysis of the two novels,Love and Vertigo and Behind the Moon by Hsu-Ming Teo,a diasporic Chinese writer in Australia, the author maintains that the two novels truly represent the life and the psychological development on the part of Chinese diaspora. From representing cultural and psychological displacements of Chinese diaspora to the subversion of the stereotype in White Australian culture,Hsu-Ming Teo subverts the traditional'mateship'culture in Australia and invites readers to look at Australian multiculturalism from a new perspective, and therefore provides a living space to diasporic writers.
