The displacement and identity have always been the unavoidable questions of immigrant writers, the characters of whose works often also have to experience the dilemma of the double identity. In Freud's essay Uncanny,he explores the "uncanny"from the perspective of psychoanalysis. In Hsu-Ming Teo's novel Love and Vertigo, the heroine Grace's life is complex and she produces self-alienation and anxiety. The occurrence of the repressed and "double"bring her "Other"feeling, which makes her who regards Australia as "home"feel uncanny. The double influences of social and domestic culture render Grace desperate to pursue the"spiritual home".
