Semantic double orientation refers to the phenomenon that one particular grammatical form is semantically both source-oriented and goal-oriented. After a survey, the author finds that the two are not equivalent with the latter occupying a dominant position and the former being but a particular case. The explanation for this asymmetry is that in cognition, people tend to focus more on goal than on source. The author labels this phenomenon in cognition as 'end-focusing'.
