Since Alice Munro won the Nobel Prize in literature for her great masterpieces, the female writers of Canada and their works have come into the world's sight. Their understanding of the life and the exploration of society won recognition for themselves. Especially their works explore how the female struggle for freedom and self-development, which is helpful for our study about the construction of the female's identity. Taking Carol Shields's The Stone Diaries as the material of study, this paper analyzes the female's identity and the ways of breaking the traditional bond and achieving self-actualization through post-structuralism, which offers ideas to the identity construction of the female.
