The Anti-Japanese War in Korea during the Wanli period of the Ming dynasty is the first large-scaled international war in East Asian in the era of globalization. The silver monetization of the Ming dynasty was one of the important factors that triggered this war. After Zhang Juzheng( 张居正) reform, the Ming court finance became inseparable with silver usage. Occurred in the transitional period from material based finance to silver currency based finance, this war constitutes a tremendous challenge to the Ming government. This article, centered on the silver currency, analyzes the financial expenses of the Ming put into the war. It is roughly estimated that an amount of more than 20 million liang( 两) silver was put into this war by the Ming court. The Ming government therefore, played a decisive role for the victory over Japan.
