摘要
基于Hutchinson等人的需求分析理论,以福建省两所应用型高校国际贸易专业168名学生为被试,自编量表调查了他们的英语需求,结果表明:《大学英语》课程有必要开设,但存在应试导向、教学手段单一、学生参与度低及课程不符合他们的期望等问题;最想提高的技能依次为阅读、翻译、口语和听力,最欠缺的技能依次为翻译、口语、听力和阅读;对职业英语的需求显著高于对学术英语的需求。为解决上述问题,各级科研和教学主管部门应加大对大学英语科研的资助力度,改进唯课题和论文的教师评价机制,将翻译技巧策略纳入大学英语教材、将听说课分设为听力与口语课、把听力纳入大学期末考试;任课教师应将应试导向与《大学英语教学指南》的培养目标兼顾起来,不可偏废,改变"英语好就能教好英语"的观念,认真钻研教学方法以提高教学水平;应用型高校的ESP课程应以EOP作为主要讲授内容。
Based on the need analysis theory of Hutchinson,with 168 students of international trade major as participants in two application-oriented universities of Fujian Province,a questionnaire was made to investigate their English need. The findings are as follows: To begin with,college English course is a necessity with some problems such as exam-orientation,single teaching method,lacking the involvement of students and the failure to coincide with their expectation. What’s more,reading ranks the top among the English skills which the participants want to improve,followed by translation,speaking and listening.The English skill that the participants lack the most is translation,followed by speaking,listening andreading. Finally,the participants’ need for EOP is significantly higher than that for EAP. To solve the above-mentioned problems,managements of scientific research and education at all levels should sponsor the research concerning college English teaching with more projects and fund,and involve translation skills and strategies in college English textbooks and also involve listening tests in the final exams of college. Managements should also separate listening and speaking course into listening course and speaking course respectively. College English teachers should combine exam-orientation with the teaching-objectives provided by the Guidance of Collage English Teaching. They should not cling to some old ideas that a good knowledge of English means a good teacher of English so as to improve their teaching skills. Moreover, EOP should play a major part in the curriculum of ESP in application-oriented universities.
