The status quo of foreign language teaching at tertiary level

摘要 一、高等教育面临的挑战从92年至今,高等教育取得了一定成就,原国家教委主要干两件事,一是教育体制改革,现在的合作、合并都是抓管理体制的结果;二是高等教育课程体系和教学内容改革(已历时四年)。四年来,几万教师和院士参加了这项课题研究,也取得了一定成绩。... Abstract Concerning foreign language teaching at the tertiary level we are faced with various challenges from the fast changing world and the rapidly developing high technology. In the next century, students of English are expected to be very well_read in various disciplines, to be creative in thinking, to be adaptive to new situations, to be morally sound and mentally healthy. Non_English majors are expected to have a much better command of English not only in reading and listening but also in writing and speaking. Band 4 tests must be made to be more related with teaching, more use_oriented and include an oral component.
