摘要
致谢辞是学术论文中最能体现情感诉诸的一种体裁。本文对比分析了200篇汉英博士论文致谢辞,研究发现:博士论文致谢辞情感诉诸大体有三种方式,即:通过提及时间讲述攻读博士学位阶段的痛苦或快乐经历,引起受众的认同或同情;通过致谢词及其修饰语的使用,使受众获得一种欣慰、自豪或骄傲;运用歉疚词及其修饰语向致谢对象表达内疚来获得受众的宽慰、认同或同情。英语较汉语在第一和第三种方式使用上不够突显;英语在致谢词的使用数量上比汉语略显丰富,但是致谢词修饰语的使用数量和频次远超汉语。中美博士生培养体制和社会—文化价值观的差异是导致汉英致谢辞情感诉诸方式不同的主要原因。
The acknowledgement is a genre of academic writings mostly able to represent emotional appeals. This study analyzed the emotional appeals in 200 Chinese and English doctoral dissertation acknowledgements. The results show that there are,in general,three pathetic persuasion modes. By mentioning the period of time spent on the dissertation and narrating the suffering or happiness during those years,an acknowledgement author calls for the audience＇s agreement or compassion. The thanks-giving words and their modifiers are used to bring audience a sense of delightedness,dignity and pride. By using the guilt-ridden expressions and their modifiers,an acknowledgment author expresses a sense of guilt and tries to win the audience＇s identification,compassion or consolation. The first and third modes are not as dominant in English as in Chinese. The number of thanks-giving expressions in English is slightly larger than that in Chinese,but the number of their modifiers and the frequency are far more than those in Chinese. The leading causes for these are the differences in Sino-US doctoral training systems and social-cultural values.
