In 2006, Taizhou Municipal Museum conducted an excavation, which led to the discovery of different sections of city wall and handong(culverts) features. Ash pits, tombs, features with red-burnt soil were excavated. In addition, ceramics, porcelain, and some other types of remains such as brick-texture balls dating to the Han, Fiver dynasties, Song, and Ming periods have been unearthed. The handong identified through this excavation should date to the Song period. The new discoveries provide new clues for addressing the dates of construction time of city walls as well as for exploring the city- scale and layout of the Taizhou urban center in the Song period.
