In the 17th century, the reports on China by the missionaries of the Society of Jesus had a great impact on the contemporary Europe, which aroused the Europeans' attention to China and ignited great writing enthusiasm among German authors.By analyzing four German novels set in China, the paper finds that the construction of Chinese images in German Baroque literature was mainly affected by two factors. On the one hand, under the influence of the missionaries' reports,China was portrayed as an ancient, powerful, rich and exotic country;on the other, influenced by the traditional model of the knight novel, the Baroque novels shaped Chinese heroes into knights in pursuit of love and adventure. In the end,China became a country of knights and heroines with exotic aura in the German Baroque novels which catered to the European readers' imagination and expectation of "exoticism."
