As one of Lawrence's masterpieces, The Rainbow reveals the ravages against the society and human nature brought by the industrial revolution. In this novel, Lawrence had borrowed numerous Biblical images and mythical prototypes in an attempt to regain the human Garden of Eden out of the Lost Paradise. This paper follows the 'bloody consciousness' valued by Lawrence and explores deeply into the characters and the plots through the description of the emotional entanglements and changes of the three generations of the Brangwens. In finding out Lawrence’s strong desire of restoring the human instincts and saving the modern civilization, the paper tries to analyze how Lawrence borrows and surpasses the Bible in order to regain the Garden of Eden in the novel.
