By holistically reviewing many factors within three categories—academicachievement,personality and talents,and personal contextual characteristics,UNC-ChapelHill is able to fairly select best and brightest students who can succeed academically in col-lege,and to make contributions to the university,NC state and the society in large,as wellas to fulfill its social missions as a public flagship university,hence the twin goals of excellence and equity can be achieved.
