A comparative study on the reading cognitive processes of different test methods:Evidence from students' perspective

摘要 本文针对两种多项选择阅读理解题型(分题选择和集库式选择),利用有声思维法和采访,对比学生做答两种任务时的阅读认知过程,以及他们对两种任务持有的不同看法。研究发现,学生在完成集库式选择任务的过程中,"通过建立句子间连贯,理解其字面意思"这一阅读认知过程出现的次数显著高于分题选择任务;学生的具体阅读认知过程是测试方法、题目类型、文本等因素综合影响的结果;学生一致认为集库式选择任务更难,但原因各异。 This study aims to compare the reading cognitive processes of two different types of multiple choice items, as well as students' different perceptions of them. The analyses of students' think-aloud protocols and interviews show that, firstly, the cognitive process of "understanding the literal meaning of several sentences by establishing the cohe- sion and coherence" appears more frequently in Banked Multiple Choice than in Separate Item Multiple Choice; secondly, the specific cognitive process is the result of multiple factors such as test method, item type, text characteristics, and etc. ; thirdly, the Banked Multiple Choice is regarded more difficult by students for various reasons, which is worth careful consideration in future test development.
