Based on the TV variety shows The Voice of China and The Voice of America, the author collected 30 interrupted sentences respectively in order to explore the characteristics of interruptions in this institutional discourse as well as the contrast of interruption types and their feedbacks for both the Chinese and American counselors. The results are: in terms of interruption, both programs mainly adopt the competitive type; and in terms of the feedbacks to the interruption, the same types of competitive language are used. But the specific types and frequency are different. As a result, this difference helps the program The Voice of America to be more interactive and competitive, so as to be funnier and more watchable. The paper concludes with a theoretical exploration for these specific interruptions.
