In order to investigate the effect of flavonoids from Medicago sativa L. and Trifolium pratense L. on growth performance, blood biochemical indexes and antioxidant properties of sheep, the hybridization male lambs between Dorper sheep and Hu sheep were selected in this research. Thirty six sheeps were divided into three groups randomly. The control group was fed on basal diet,Medicago sativa L. group I fed basal diet adding extracts of alfalfa flavonoids(20 mg/kg), Trifoliurn pratense L. group Ⅱ fed basal diet adding extracts of Trifoliurn pratense L. flavonoids (15 mg/kg). Preliminary feeding period was 10 days, this experiment lasted 60 days. Growth per- formance, blood biochemical indexes and antioxidation characteristics of sheep were determined. The results showed that flavonoids from Medicago sativa L. and Trifoliurn increased the content of GH, IGF-1 and T3 of serum, increased average day gain significantly(P〈0.05), decreased feed conversion ratio, triglyceride and total cholesterol significantly(P〈0.05),increased the GSH-Px, SOD and CAT activity, decreased MDA content, and improved antioxidation characteristics of sheep. This experiment shows that the flavonoids from Medicago sativa L. and Trifoliurn pratense L. could improved blood antioxidant properties, hormone and some biochemical indexes of sheep,it is benefit for sheep average day gain.
