This book review uses the transnational feminist theoretical lens to highlight and further explore the historical, political and cultural signification of such concepts as" Chinese revolution" and" women's writing" articulated in Haiping Yau's book. Situating Chinese women and their literary imaginations in the context of the global expansion of capitalist colonial modernity and in the historical reality where modern bio-ethnic politics established and naturalized, through war and economic colonialism, a binary relationship between the strong and the weak in the Chinese political, commercial, intellectual, and social realms, Yan Haiping's book breaks new ground in the study of Chinese feminism and women writers. It not only illustrates the profound ethical commitment made by Chinese" revolutionary" women in their half-century-long, life-and-death resistance to the bio-ethnic re-mapping of the world and in their persistent engagement of social history through writing but also reveals alternative historical and political resources ,heterogeneous cultural imaginations and parti- cular" revolutionary" potential(s) of Third World feminist movement in general.
