摘要
寓言的概念出自《庄子》。不过,晚清之前,寓言指的是一种"藉外论之"的说理方式,并非文体专名。19世纪后半期,随着域外寓言的传入,近代寓言的概念萌芽。受到西方寓言的启迪,晚清学人认识到寓言富于启蒙的精神特质,掀起了本土寓言创作的高潮。晚清寓言继承了传统寓言的精华,吸收了西方寓言的创作精神与表现手法,融会传统与当代市民文化,表现出鲜明的时代特征。经过晚清寓言家的创作实践,西方寓言概念本土化,传统寓言完成近代转型。"小说界革命"以后,寓言从文学主流淡出,主要在青少年启蒙教育中发挥作用。晚清寓言是传统文学近代化的重要标本,其发展及嬗变过程具有重要的象征意义。
The concept off＇fable＂ came from the Chinese classic Chuang-tzu, but it did not refer to a literary style but only a method of fable-based reasoning until the late Qing dynasty. In the second half of the nineteenth century, after the introduction of the Western fables to China, the concept of modern fables emerged. Inspired by the Western fables, some Chinese intellectuals recognized the en- lightening function of fables and actively got involved in the creation of local fables. The fables of the late Qing dynasty inherited the essence of the traditional Chinese fables, and drew the spirit and tech- niques of Western fables, by integrating the traditional and civil cultures with their features of the times. The fable-writers of the late Qing dynasty made the Western fables localized and the early modern transformation of the traditional Chinese fables. After the Dramatic Transformation of Novel- writing Technique proposed by Liang Qichao, fables gradually disappeared from the mainstream liter- ature, mainly playing a role of enlightening the teenagers. Thus, the fables of the late Qing dynasty mirror the early modernization of the traditional Chinese literature, whose transformation and devel- opment have a great significance in the history of literary studies.
