A gap was becoming increasingly wider and wider from regional space to social space in the process of urban society's openness in the Tang and Song Dynasties, the rise and fall of all levels of the urban society and frequent mobility, including the mobility of regional and social space, had formed a marginalized group by the mainstream society, and their living condition became either a bottleneck for the city's continuous development or a catalytic agent for city's transition, both the folk society and government were faced with new problems and serious challenges. The marginalized group belonged to lower and middle classes, the biggest mixed group with strong mobility and uncertainty in the city. In the capital society, the most notable in this group were those young ruffians and rascals who swaggered around, made troubles, enjoyed cock-fights and dograces, practiced dishonesty, and dominated the market. Their origin, formation, evolution, characteristics and growing tendency were of typical significance. With the development and the changing society, their formation and influence on the city's society had been different in different periods.
