REGγ(PSME3, proteasome activator complex subunit 3), as an important 20S proteasome activator, was involved in degrading many important proteins in ubiquitin and ATP independent manner. Recent study showed that REGγ was also involved in series of physiological and pathological process including tumor progression, immune response, neurological disease, etc. It also showed that REGγ could be induced by different stimuli. Posttranslational modifications can regulate REGγ activity. For example, sumoylation and acetylation are critical for the degradation ability of REGγ. Therefore, REG), is a multifunctional protein which mainly was localized in the nucleus. This paper systematically describes the recent studies of REGγand discusses the important role and its mechanism in physiological and pathological process.
