Australian writer Richard Flanagan' s novel The Narrow Road to the Deep North, which is a 2014 Man Booker Prize winner, meets the three modes of subject creation as discussed by Foucauh, namely, powerfashioning, knowledge -fashioning, and self- fashioning. Different from ordinary war novels which focus on the process of the war, this novel is focusing on the reflection and deconstruction of the root of the war, that is, the extreme nationalism which classifies the peoples and the nations. Facing the conspiracy of power and knowledge behind the Japanese extreme nationalism, the Australian captures rebuilt their alliance with the world through humanistic love, broke through the control of power and knowledge, completed characterization of self - ethics, and ultimately achieve salvation.
