Saturday is the ninth novel of the British writer Ian McEwan. The book details a typical urban cultural ecology by tracing a Saturday life of a successful middle- aged surgeon. To explicate what underlies the Utopian ideology, the present study takes a look at the "euphoria" of the urbanites, as is reflected throughout the Saturday life, to reveal that winners in the contemporary life are actually no more than a loser. More known is a grim sense of foreboding in the disguise of a glossy material success and above all, a twisted cultural logic of the contemporary urban life, as is revealed by the author Ian McEwan.
