This paper studies the writings of "The Material Unconscious" connected with wood in William Faulkner's Snopes Trilogy from the material cultural perspective, explores how the entire wood objects correspond to every stage of environmental destruction in the specific period of American South and furthermore uncovers Faulkner' s special aesthetic features in writing about the environment. The writing of "The Material Unconscious" connected with wood in Snopes Trilogy implies Faulkner' s response and self-conflicting attitude towards the huge social changes of the American Deep South in his time. Faulkner' s special preference in the representation of environment in a grand context of change highlights his unique aesthetic features of environmental writings.
