Edwin Gentzler, Professor of Comparative Literature and Director of the Translation Center at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, USA, is a well-renowned scholar in translation studies. He is author of two monographs, Translation and Identity in the Americas(2007), and Contemporary Translation Theories(1993), and co-editor of Translation and Power(with Maria Tymoczko, 2002) and of the "Topics in Translation" Series for Multilingual Matters(with Susan Bassnett). In a face-to-face interview in July 2013 in the Translation Center of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Professor Gentzler introduces such key issues as "manipulation," "ideology" and "translator's subjectivity" in the "cultural turn" of translation studies, briefly explores the relationship between translation studies and cultural studies, and expresses his expectations about the development of translation studies from the perspective of culture. Professor Gentzler believes that translation studies from the cultural perspective involves "macro-geographic trend" and "micro-geographic trend," and will lead to a "multicultural turn."
