There are two perspectives in queer studies against the background of globalization: one is Dennis Ahman' s argument of "global queering", which emphasizes the uhrastable structure and unitarity beyond time and space; the other is Foucauldian discourse analysis, which emphasizes the internal special identity and category. Transnational homosexual identity and subjectivity involve the controversy over localness and embeddedness as well as the ways of self-expression by the third world homosexual community when fa- cing Western sexual discourses and practices. The relationship between the West and the non-Western world does not find expression in planarization or a single dimension, but in diversity and heterogeneity. The West is not the only origin of homosexual identity/culture, and Asian and Chinese lesbians and gays are not the mirror or copy of their Western counterparts. Homosexual studies should avoid the simple identity-creating model of "stimulus-response".
