In the present study, Chun'an spotted pig conservation population including 7 lineages (13 boars and 126 sows) were studied. Their physical appearance, shape size, body weight and reproductive performance were meas- ured, and the genetic polymorphism was detected using 9 microsatellite markers. The acquired data were compared with the historical data. The results showed that the physical appearance of present conservation population was the same as traditional description. The coat colors of 7 lineages contained "dark cloud covered snow", "silver collar" and "scattered spots", and the major coat color was "dark cloud covered snow". The head shapes contained "lion head", "Shou head" and "mouse head", and the main type was "Shou head". The average weight of adult sows was 98.2 kg, and the average body length was 128.3 cm, which increased 10. 7% and 10. 5% , respectively, com- pared with the recorded data in 1980. The average litter sizes of the first, second and third parity were 9. 67, 11.87 and 13.04 heads per litter, which increased 45.0% , 39. 8% and 15.9% , respectively, compared with the recorded data in 1980. Microsatellite analysis showed that the expected and observed heterozygosity decreased compared with the conservation groups in Chun'an in 2008, but the polymorphism information content (PIC) remained unchanged.According to the research, it appeared that the presented conservation population of Chun'an spotted pigs conserved the breed characteristics, and the germplasm diversity was rich and well preserved.
