摘要
1872年,日本驻美外交使节森有礼将美国各界著名人士关于日本教育改革的13封信函等汇编成《Education in Japan》一书,次年在华盛顿出版:1896年,来华美国传教士林乐知又将这13封信函等译成中文,取名为《文学兴国策》,由上海广学会刊印。近代中、日、美三国文化教育交流史上这一段不寻常的史实,在中国教育近代化的进程中产生了不可忽视的影响。
Arinori Mori is one of the most influential proponents of Westem ideas of education in Japan during the late 19th century. From 1870 to 1873, he served as the Japanse deputy minister in Washington, where he surveyed the American educational system and published Education in Japan(1873). In 1896, this book was translated into Chinese by Young J. Allen,a Methodist missionary of America, who sailed from New Yolk to Shanghai to be missionary ambassador to China in 1860 and contributed his life to the educational modernization of China.In this paper,the author makes an investigation of the background and contents of the Chinese transla- tion of Education in Japan and the influence of this translation on the educational modernization of Chia.
