The paper elaborates in details the dialectical relationship between forest certification and ecological soundness.It introduces the concept, mechanism and scheme of forest certification,reviews the development progress of forest certification in and outside China,and analyses in details the active role of forest certification in promoting sustainable forest management and consequently promoting ecological soundness.As a market based instrument,forest certification is playing an active role in promoting sustainable forest management, while sustainable forest management means that the three main benefits of forests,being ecologically sound,socially beneficial and economically viable,shall be harmoniously integrated.Forest certification promotes sustainable forest management,and accordingly promotes ecological soundness.
