Objective To investigate the changes of cognitive ability and the development status of gastrointestinal function in animal models with autism. Methods The rate at 12.5 d pregnancy was injected sodium valproate through the tail vein during pregnancy (injection diluted with 250 g/L,600 mg/kg). The 11 rats produced were regarded as model group rats ; another pregnant rat was injected the same dose of normal saline, who produced 14 rats as control group rats. Observe two group of mice on the changes in the process of growth and development, record the data about the weight, swimming, gastrointestinal sensory function, gastrointestinal motility, darkness reaction, and the open field test, analyze the changes of cognitive ability and the development status of gastrointestinal function. Results Compared with the control group, model group mice showed growth retardation, poorer coordination in swimming, reduced gastrointestinal pain, and hyper function of gastrointestinal motility; in the aspects of cognitive development, the model mice showed shorter movement distance in the open field test, longer incubation period and fewer mistakes, and the difference was of statistical significance. Conclusion Autism models have more sluggish growth and development process, and experience gastrointestinal problems in both sensory function and motility. In addition, the exploration of the unknown area is less, and they have stronger memory ability as to the dangerous factors.
