Objective To develop a rapid and simultaneous detection method for metals and their compounds in workplace air, human blood and urine with inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Methods The digested sample of air, and the samples of blood and urine were directly detected by ICP-MS. Results Good linear relationships in the se-lected range were observed, the detection limits of 14 elements including Be, V, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Mo, Cd, Sb, Ba, T1 and Pb in workplace air were 0. 02-6. 50 μg/L, the minimum detectable qualitical concentrations were 2.4 × 10^ -6. 8.4 × 10^ -4 mg/m^3 ( sample volume was fixed to 75 L), and the relative standard deviation (RSD) was 0. 93%-5.64%. The detection limits of 24 elements including Be, V, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ga, Ge, Zr, Mo, Cd, In, Sn, Sb, Te, Ba, W, As, Se, T1, Pb and Bi were 0. 02-2. 88 μg/L in blood, and 0. 02-1.39 μg/L in urine respectively. RSD were 0. 74%-10. 67% in blood and 0. 65%-9.34% in urine respectively. Determination resuhs of standard substance were within reference values. Conclusion The method is rapid, accurate and simple, it can be used for quantitative detection for occupational hygiene in workplace air, and biological material sample including metals and their compounds, it also can be used for rapid screening of heavy metal poisoning.
