摘要
马在英国社会有着独一无二的地位,上到王公贵族,下到平民百姓,对马都是情有独钟。马文化在英国可谓最具代表性,从养马、驯马、骑马,到赛马、赌马。马成了英国人生活中不可或缺的朋友。而在英语文化中关于马的联想总是和忠诚、勇敢、温和相关的。本文将从英语语言中的马文化、英国马术以及马与英国皇室之间的关系几个方面来说明马文化在英国人的生活中所起到的作用。
Horses play an essential role in British society. Everybody loves horses, either the British Royalty or the common British people. Horse culture is very typical in Britain, ranging from raising horses, training horses, riding horses to horse racing and betting on horse racing. Horses are the indispensible friends in the livesof British people. When it comes to horses in the English culture, we often associate them with the following ad- jectives： loyal, courageous and gentle. This article aims to demonstrate the important role horse culture plays in the lives of the British people from three aspects： horse culture in the English language; the British equestrian; the relationship between the British Royalty and horses.
