《秀拉》是一部典型的迫害文本,包含了勒内·吉拉尔所归纳的全部四种迫害范式。秀拉被"底层"居民挑选为替罪羊,走上祭坛接受集体的迫害,然而她的献祭却没能缓解黑人社区的危机。秀拉在孤寂中走向死亡,众多"底层"居民也在夏德拉克的牛铃声中走向灭亡。替罪羊机制救赎功效的失败源于其表象下藏匿的白人霸权对黑人民族在政治、经济和文化等领域的多重迫害以及她的自我身份建构与黑人民族文化传统之间的断层和偏离。
Sula can be regarded as a typical text of persecution which contains all the four stereotypes of persecution defined by Ren6 Girard. Sula was picked by the Bottom as the scapegoat to suffer the collec-tive violence on the altar. However, her sacrifice failed to save the black community from their crisis. Af-ter Sula's lonely death, the majority of the Bottom residents also met their doom under the guide of Shadrack's cow bell. The failure of the scapegoating schemeg redemptive function stemmed from the multi-ple oppressions inflicted on the blacks by the white hegemony in political, economic and cultural fields as well as the fracture and departure between the context of their self-identity construction and the African-A- merican culture and tradition.
