Objective To find out the characteristic of academic self-efficacy in the key junior high school adolescents, to explore the influence of parental and peer attachments on academic self-efficacy, and to examine the mediation of the general self- efficacy. Methods A total of 447 adolescents from a key junior high school in Guangzhou were cluster sampled and examined by using the scales of adolescent attachment, academic self-efficacy and general self-efficacy. Results It showed that the general degree of academic self-efficacy in the adolescents was upper middle. Self-efficacy in study behavior for female students were better than that for male students ( P〈0.01 ) , and self-efficacy in study ability for students at grade three was better than those at grade two and grade one students ( P〈0.01 ). For the attachment, mother-child attachment and father-child attachment were predictors of self-efficacy in study ability while parental attachment and peer attachment were predictors of self-efficacy in study behaviors. The relation between parent attachment and academic self-efficacy was mediated by general self-efficacy ( P〈0.05 ). Conclusion It may conclude that for the adolescents from key junior high school improving the academic self-efficacy is as important as improving their relationship with their parents or their peers. In particular, more attention should be paid to relation between parents and children, which plays a fundamental and comprehensive role.
