"意"是唐五代诗学的核心范畴。"意"的含蕴丰富,既指涉诗歌构思创作中的情思意绪和区别于以景写情的直接抒情的创作方式,又指涉诗歌用意曲折隐微的风貌特征以及诗歌创作时的精神状态、创作冲动与灵感。对"意"的批评,唐人反对"意熟语旧",贵独创;表意要求言简义丰、声律谐和、"内外意"各自表意完足而又契合无间。唐人以为,"意"是诗歌创作中的主导性要素,并由此提出并丰富完善了"以意为主"、"意先语后"与"意在象前"的论题。在言与意的关系问题上,唐人提出"意在言外"与"语穷意远",强调诗意表达应含蓄而避免浅露直白,要求在简洁的文字之中蕴藏尽可能丰富的意蕴。唐人论诗以"意"为焦点的现象标志着诗论史上重"意"时代的到来。
" Yi" is the core category of poetics in Tang and five dynasties. It has rich meaning which refers not only to the idea of conception and the way of direct emotional expression that different from the way of expression by scenery but also to the style of implicit expression and the mental state of the creative, impulse and inspiration at the same time. The standards of criticism to "Yi" include two aspects, one refers to the innovation in conception and expression, the other refers to the meaning expression which should be simple but rich, harmonious in rhythm, and have the inner and outer meaning which has com- plete mining in each level and intimate connection in each other. In the Tang people's view, "Yi" is the dominant factor in poet ry creation. They also developed topics such as dominance of concept, conceiving before words and conceiving before image. The Tang people put forward "meaning implied" and "Limited words but endless meaning" on the relationship of "Yan" and "Yi". They emphasized that poetic expression should be reserved and avoid bluntly straightforward. The phenomenon of the Tang focusing on "Yi" in poetry marked the arrival of the era which has great attention on it.
