Carbohydrate is the most important and decomposable soil organic matter. Many studies have shown that the changes of carbohydrate can serve as a sensitive indicator to the overturn and decomposition of organic matter. Moreover, its existence can enhance the stability of soil aggregates. Consequently, much more attention should be paid to the studies of it. The objectives of this paper are to give a comprehensive introduction to carbohydrate and to set forth the distribution and environmental effect of different sugars in soil.
