摘要
19世纪 70年代郭嵩焘就认识到西方富强的本源 :重视商务 ,保护商民 ,民富是国强的基础 ;政教修明 ,以法治国 ,君与民交相维系 ;重视科学 ,发展教育 ,培养有用人才。并指出西方也有自己的文明。从而回答了为什么要学习西方和怎么学的问题 ,其思想水平超过了同时期先进人士 。
In the 1870s,Guo Songtao had realized that the wealth and strength of the West lied in the origin, that was paying much attention to business affairs, protecting the businessmen and regarding the peoples riches as the base of being a powerful country; that was governing a country orderly, running a state according to laws and establishing the supporting between the king and the common people; that was taking heed of science, developing education and cultivating talents. And whats more, he pointed out that the West also had its own civilization. Thus, he answered the question why people should learn from the West and how to learn. The level of his thoughts had surpassed the thoughts of the other contemporary elite, and established his status as an enlightening thinker.
