摘要
英语存在句定指效应的句法解释一直是句法学界的难题。本文基于英语存在句NP的题元配对和格赋值、there的语法化过程以及NP和there的算子匹配关系,在理论层面上探讨了英语存在句定指效应的历时与共时成因。此外,本文还探索了英语存在句的结构推导以及违例分析。所得结论如下:(1)英语存在句定指效应并非因为该类结构中NP是谓词,需不定指;(2)英语存在句定指效应是there语法化以及NP和there算子匹配的结果;(3)定指效应的违例句并非真正意义的存在句。
The definiteness effect of English existential sentence has not been satisfactorily interpreted yet. This study makes at- tempts to explore in the theoretical sense its chronological and synchronic causes from the perspectives of theta match and case assignment of NP, the grammaticalization of THERE, and the match between NP and operator THERE. The study also mana- ges to derive existential sentences and analyze the exceptions to definiteness effect. The conclusions are as follows： （ 1 ） Definite- ness effect of English existential sentences is not because NP in that structure serves as predicate and thus should be indefinite; （2） Definiteness effect of NP in English existential sentences is the result of grammaticalization of THERE and match between operator THERE and NP; （3） The exceptions to definiteness effect are not existential sentences in its real sense.
