摘要
严歌苓的小说中有着大量的海外中国女性书写。这一方面体现了严歌苓对海外中国女性的关注和同情;另一方面她也以这些女性为视点,来返观和审视西方文化。严歌苓小说中的海外中国女性,艰难地生存于中西文化夹缝之中,处于"看"与"被看"的历史境地。她们在被动接受西方人救赎的同时不忘对其审视,在自立自强之中充满对自由的渴望。"救赎"与"自由"是严歌苓审视海外中国女性的两个基本视角。严歌苓颠覆了西方人自以为是的救赎神话,同时以自身的实际经验,探讨了海外中国女性追求自由的途径及其可能。
Yan Geling's novels abound with the characterization of overseas Chinese women.That shows her concern over and sympathy for overseas Chinese women on the one hand,and on the other these females are used to reexamine and contemplate western culture.The overseas women of her novels,living a hard life in crevices between Chinese and western cultures,are put in a historical context of 'watching' and 'being watched'.While passively redeemed by westerners,they keep an eye on examining their redeemers;they are full of desire of freedom by being self-supporting and improving.Redemption and freedom are two basic perspectives from which Yan examines overseas Chinese women.She subverts the westerner's self-opinionated myth of redemption and from her personal experience,investigates the means and possibilities of freedom-seeking on the part of overseas Chinese women.
