Based on continuum damage mechanical theory, a novel approach to predict ductile fractures was proposed considering the effect of deformation history including variations of temperature and strain rates and their distribution as well on cumulative damage evolution and critical damage value. Applications of the approach were discussed as examples in warm forming of Mg alloy sheets, hot forging of Ti alloys and hydraulic bulging of stainless steel sheet based on different ductile frac- ture criteria. The results showed that the novel approach could predict bulk forming and sheet metal forming well.
