The running of universities should be based on common sense, which is an empirical reason summarized from the development of university itself. Though common sense is experience, not all experiences are common sense. There' s no absolute truth that could be relied on, but the violation of common sense should be highly concerned. As the essence of common sense, traditions of universities are the most reasonable parts for how universities being universities because traditions can provide conceptual and cultural protections. Compared with common sense and traditions, imagination is of more importance for universities. Imagination is omniscient when common sense and traditions have limited application areas. There is no absolute common sense or traditions. Successful transformation of universities requires the respect of common sense and adherence to traditions as well as the unique and special imagination.
