《寒夜》是巴金继《家》之后的又一部力作,标志着作家在艺术上进入了新的发展阶段。作家着力从"发掘人心"的角度,将艺术的笔触探入幽微复杂的内心世界,用多种多样的心理描写手段,对人物心理纵深剖析,体现了人物心理的真实性、复杂性和运动性的特征。《寒夜》中精深的心理刻画代表了巴金"发掘人心"所达到的最高成就。
