摘要
英国著名汉学家翟理斯在《聊斋志异》在英语世界的经典化过程中扮演了关键角色。首先,他于1880年翻译出版了《聊斋志异》首个英译本,该译本出版后在西方代表蒲松龄达一个世纪之久,成为《聊斋志异》的经典英语译本;其次,他在自己编撰的、在英语世界影响深远的《中国文学史》里用大量篇幅对《聊斋志异》作了介绍。所有这些都推动了《聊斋志异》在英语世界的经典化。
The famous British sinologist Herbert A.Giles played a key role in the canonization of Liao Zhai Zhi Yi in the English world.On one hand,in 1880,he translated and published the first English translation of Liao Zhai Zhi Yi — the Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio.Since its publication,the version had represented Pu Songling for more than 100 years in the English world and became the classic English translation of Liao Zhai Zhi Yi.On the other hand,he made a detailed introduction of Liao Zhai Zhi Yi in his influential A History of Chinese Literature.All these greatly promoted the canonization of Liao Zhai Zhi Yi in the English world.
