According to the type of rubber articles in contact with aqueous food or fatty foods,Choice distilled water or n-hexane as right solvent.The food-contact surface of the rubber article in the finished form in which it was to contact food,when extracted with right solvent at reflux temperature during the first 7 hours of extraction and the succeeding 2 hours of extraction,Evaporate and dry the filtrate,yielding total extractives.Calculation:Percent extractable=Grams of residue/surface area of the rubber article ×100.
