Upon investigation into the data of transmission line collected in Zhuhai,China in the foggy weather during February 2nd—7th,2010,it is confirmed that the reduced insulation level in the chemical industry cluster along the coast area is mainly induced by the wet precipitation(acid fog and salt fog) in that area. The wet precipitation also in part explains the actually high pollution class with low measured equivalent salt deposit density(ESDD).By comparing the monitoring data of composite, porcelain and glass insulators,it is concluded that the damage of wet precipitation to external insulation can not be effectively reduced by increasing the creepage distance of porcelain and glass insulators, whereas the use of composite insulators is of better effect.
