Micro milling process is one of the most attractive technologies applied in the micro manufacturing because of its high machining accuracy and forming capability. This paper conducted experimental studies on surface roughness of micro milling.Micro tool wear and its effects on surface generation are investigated.Firstly, experimental analysis for surface roughness and measurement approaches were performed based on the micro-end-milling experiments of OFHC Copper by using 0.1 mm diameter micro milling tools with the miniaturized machine tool. It could be concluded that the minimum chip thickness is the root cause of difference between micro and macro scale milling.Secondly, the micro tool wear was studied. The experimental results show that the development of the tool wear has significant effects on the surface generation of micro milling process. The cutting velocity and material removal volume are found to be the main factors that affect the tool wear, which will in turn affect the surface roughness significantly. This paper provided large amounts of experimental results for micro milling process studies.
