The House on Mango Street,the masterpiece of Sandra Cisneros,a modern Chicana writer in the United States,records a struggling history of Mexican immigrants in America.The novel depicts the growth of the female protagonist Esperansa,reflecting Esperansa’s and other Mexican women’s marginal status in American society and their subordinate reality from their fathers or husbands,through which the work lays bare those Mexican women’s physical and spiritual pursuit of equality of class,racial and gender identity.
