摘要
中国传统思维重视整体性和含蓄性,而西方思维注重分析性和逻辑性。中国学生在英语写作中惯于将主题句"藏"于段落当中,且阐述篇章段落主旨贵于"曲",即迂回曲折地表现篇章段落中心思想。这在崇尚直线式表达的西方人看来是不恰当的,甚至是没有经验的表现。因此,大学英语教学应有意识地提醒学生汉英思维的文化差异,这是导致语言使用差异的一个本质因素。从理论的高度指导大学英语写作,更好地帮助学生用英语语篇模式来安排文章结构,写出地道的英语作文。
The differences in thinking between Eastern and Western people are resulted from their different geographic environments,cultural sources,historical backgrounds and political factors.The Chinese traditional thinking lays emphasis on synthesis and intuition while the western thinking focuses on analysis and logic.Influenced by their integral and intuitive thinking way,the Chinese students prefer to ＂hide＂ the topic sentence among the whole paragraph while writing compositions in English.Meanwhile,the so-called ＂qu＂ is cherished when explaining the theme of the paragraph.That is to express the main idea in a tortuous way.However,this practice is often regarded as inappropriate or even inexperienced by the Westerns who prefer to express their ideas in a straight and linear way.So it is proposed that college English teachers impart to students the knowledge of the Chinese-Western thinking difference so that the Chinese students can be theoretically guided in English writing.In this way,the students will be better helped to organize their compositions on the English discourse patterns and compose idiomatic English writings.
