摘要
功能翻译理论认为实现译文在译语文化中的预期目的和功能是翻译应遵循的重要原则。十七大报告的英译不仅牵涉到文化、语言和翻译问题,而且还涉及政治问题。因此,运用功能翻译理论来看十七大报告的英译,就是要在基本忠实于原文的基础上,选择有助于达到译文目的的灵活多样的翻译策略,即可根据需要对原文的词汇、句法结构进行适当调整。
From the perspective of the functionalist translation theory, this paper aims to analyze the purpose and the expected function of the English version of the report. Achieving the expected purpose and function of the report in the target culture is the principle translators should observe. By analyzing specific examples of the English version of the report, the author concludes that various translation strategies which would be conducive to the purpose of the translated report should be adopted on the ha- sis of being faithful to the original version. If necessary, some adjustments could be made in the lexical and syntactic structure of the original text.
