2008年10月，我国音乐理论家、教育家茅原先生在人生道路上走过了80年风雨历程。这80年，是中国社会从半殖民地、半封建走向强盛的80年，是中华民族从贫穷落后走向初步繁荣的80年，也是古老的中华文明重新崛起的80年。茅原亲历了20世纪上半叶中国的战争、动乱和社会巨变，他似一颗不屈的小草顽强抗争；
Chinese music theorist and educator Mao Yuan celebrated his 80th birthday in October 2008.The past 80 years see the progress of the Chinese society from the semi -feudal and semi-colonial to the strong one,that of the Chinese nation from poverty to prosperity,as well as the revival of the longstanding Chinese civilization.Mao Yuan has experienced all the wars,turmoil and social changes in China in the first half of the 20th century but he still managed to struggle like a little grass,and worked hard to learn and teach in the spirit of ″a paving stone″.As a music theorist of the new China,he completed over 80 academic papers and 5 monographs,and as a music educator of the new China,he educated hundreds of young talents.In a word,he has made contribution to the construction and development of musicology discipline in the new nation.For over half a century,Mao Yuan has experienced both a period of exploration into the Western music culture and that of search for traditional and folk music in China.And it is with his knowledge of world music cultures and his concerns over various issues of the present times that he has made fruitful and creative achievements for the modern Chinese musicology.In the field of music aesthetics,he combined philosophy,aesthetics and psychology into one by applying integrated ways both historically and logically,and thanks to the theoretical research achievements made by his predecessors and his considerations over the current issues existing in the real world,he created a philosophical way of thinking which is characterized by the process from the entirety to the part and vice versa.In the field of composing technique research,he has a wide horizon covering from Chinese and foreign tonality concepts,melody analysis and music form analysis to modern and contemporary composing technique research.And,as an accomplished music educator,he has been working with unyielding efforts,which has been rewarded by numerous prizes and honours as well as a variety of social positions.A renowned music
