Objective To study the changes of immune function of type Ⅱ diabetic mellitus with multiple organ involvements and after treatment by fetus thymosin (FT).Methods T lymphocyte subpopulation in peripheral blood was measured by APAAP method. Fetus thymosin (FT) was mixed with Hanks solution in the treatment. The changes of T lymphocyte subpopulation in peripheral blood and the functions of heart, kidney and brain in different phases of type Ⅱ diabetes mellitus with chronic multiple organ involvements were analyzed. Results Before treatment, there was no significant difference in T lymphocyte subpopulation between normal group and type Ⅱ diabetes mellitus group without marked multiple organ involvements (P>0.05), whereas T lymphocyte subpopulation in those with involvements was lower than that in normal group (P<0.01). After FT treatment,T lymphocyte subpopulation in peripheral blood was increased, it was much more than that in nonFT group (P<0.01). 60 days after treatment in FT group, its peak value of CD2 was 84.1±1.8% and the ratio of CD2/CD8 was 2.5±1.3.At the same time, FT also improved the functions of heart, kidney and brain. Conclusion There is a remarkable decrease of cellmediated immunity when type Ⅱ diabetic patients have multiple organ involvements.Thymosin could exert immunostimulating effects on suppressor T cells and is beneficial to the restoration of the functions of heart, kidney and brain.
