The purpose of this study was to examine human's weight perception from auditory and visual displays. Two experiments were conducted by using seven boxes with same volume but different weight. A model operator was asked to carry the seven boxes respectively between two platforms and in this carrying process both the sounds and the videos were recorded. Subjects were required to judge the weight level scores of the seven boxes in listening to the sounds and viewing the videos, respectively. Twenty male and 20 female subjects were involved in this research. Results showed that: (1) from sounds, people could only roughly distinguish two classes of weight : "light" and "heavy", the boundary of the two classes was about 20kg; (2) from video information, subjects could reliably discriminate levels of weight.
